I’m visiting Merida right now. I may not have the full answer but maybe my experience will help answer your question.

First, yes. I use the same Uber and Uber eats apps as in the states.

Secondly, Uber is linked to my American credit card, so I don’t deal in cash with drivers or restaurants.

Lastly, I use the Capitol One Quicksilver card, which does not chargr international transaction fees. Using a credit card helps protect me from fraud and I get to immediately see what’s been charged.

You may want to use a bank or card that doesn’t charge fees. I set mine up just for this trip.
