Hey. You’ll need to get a SIM card. They cost like $2-$3 bucks, and you’ll pay for a plan. You can get a plan for about $11 bucks for 30-days. Includes unlimited text/calls (to/from US/Mexico). It’ll include about 3 gigs of data (so make sure you’re not using it to watch videos on YouTube/TikTok). The plan includes unlimited use of Facebook, IG, WhatsApp (primary way people communicate), so none of these apps will count against your 3 gig data. If you’re using the phone primarily to talk, text and use whatsapp, and to order Uber/DiDi, and internet browsing (no videos), you should go over that data during the 30-day period. I use TelCel (largest provider here). Just make sure your phone is unlocked so you can use the SIM.
